The rules in golf are fairly simple if you already know them, however explaining them could take a while. If you are not very familiar with the basics, the first thing you would need to know would be the main objective of the game: you have to hit the ball at the start or at the tee into the hole for every section in the course’s 18 sections or 18 holes.

The hole is located on the green, which is a piece of short and well-maintained grass. Once you are already on the green, you need to use your putter, which is the club that has a slab-like end, instead of your other normal clubs.

Every hole has a specified target number of shots to be done from the tee to the hole. This is called the par. For instance, if you are on a par 5 hole, you would need to get the ball from the tee to the hole in five shots or less. If you were able to do it with exactly the number of shots specified, then your score would be a par. If you did it in one less than the par, your score would be a birdie. If you did it in two less than the par, your score would be an eagle. Three below par would be called an albatross and the best score would be a hole in one, which happens if you were able to get the ball from the tee to the hole in one hit.

On the other hand, if you scored one more than the par then that would be a bogey. Two more than the par would be a double bogey. If you have tried for more that 12 shots, then you forfeit the hole. You would then have to move to the next hole.

Eventually, as you go through the game, there would be various hazards that you would have to deal with. If your ball lands on the rough, which is an area on the course that has long grass, you could find it difficult to move on from that area. There could also be trees on the rough of some courses, which could make them harder to get out of. The worst hazards would be the lakes and the ponds, because if you hit the ball into one, it would cost you the shot you took and another shot as a penalty, which would make it harder to reach par.

By: Bill Pratt

About the Author:

Begin by checking that your hands are in practically direct opposition as they grasp the club-that is, with the palms facing each other squarely. The (left) hand is placed against the shaft in such a manner that the shaft makes a diagonal contact from the crook of the index finger across the palm.

It is, with this left hand, a combination palm and finger grip. When this hand is closed the club should be held in the first two fingers and the palm. Check that there is a fold of flesh between the club and the little finger. This, as a matter of fact, is a check point for getting the correct golf grip by which you can tell whether you have the palm-and-finger grip.

As you address the ball and look down at your hands, you must see no more than two knuckles, those at the base of index finger and the big finger. Two knuckles! This is your second and last check point for the position of this hand.

The next step to getting the correct golf grip is assessing the right hand. The right hand is very important, both in the way it grasps the club and in the way it fits against the left. Let’s take the club first.

It has been said that the grip with the right hand is a finger grip. This is true but where in the fingers? This is at the very base or root of the second and third fingers, where they meet the palm. This is the best place because there the club can be held most securely.

There is not only less chance but less inclination, with such a grip, to loosen the hand at the top of the swing or anywhere else. Such a grip, because it is at the very edge of the palm, makes for a tighter connecting joint between arm and club, with less give than any other. It transmits more power when the ball is struck.

Any grip higher in the fingers of the right hand, say along the inside of the middle knuckles of the second and third fingers, is untrustworthy. It is a loose grip to begin with, and the tendency is to loosen it further at the top of the swing. Finally, there is more give in it when the ball is hit.

We have identified the right-hand grip as being taken with the second and third fingers because, of course, the index finger is separated slightly from the middle finger and is hooked low around the club. The little finger, in the overlapping or interlocking grips, does not touch the club at all. In the so-called ten-finger grip, though, the little finger would grasp the club exactly as the second and third do.

In taking our putting grip we recommend placing the left hand on the club first in its proper position, then sliding the right under the shaft, fingers extended and palm up. Slide no further when the club slips into the little groove where the fingers meet the palm. Then just close the hand, moving it up the shaft slightly so that the third finger fits against the index finger of the left hand and the little finger overlaps or lies on top of the left index finger.

You will find that the palm of the right comes up and faces directly to the left, and that the center of the base of the right hand fits snugly over the big knuckle at the base of the left thumb. Both thumbs will be on the shaft, the, left lying a little to the right of the top (at about 2 o’clock in aviation parlance) and the right lying to the left of the top, at about 10 or 10:30 o’clock.

The well-known V’s, formed by the folds of flesh between the thumb and forefinger of each hand, should both point a shade to the right of the chin, to about the inside joint of the collar bone.

That’s all there is to it! Congratulations, now you know how to get the correct golf grip and with a bit of practice you’ll get it right every time.

By: Ruth Cracknell

About the Author:

Golf Swing grip is so important element in golf game. Golf grip is the only connection between you and your golf club. Accuracy and power depends on golf grip too. Finding your perfect golf club grip is the first thing you should do. It takes time and practice to do that. But if you choose correct golf aid you can do it faster. But still it takes some practice to achieve your goal.

Choosing right golfing aid is important too. You should choose the one which has a lot of positive feedback. Personally I have tried a loads of golf swing aids and only few really helped me to cut few strokes of my game. I was very happy when I found aid which helped me to improve my golf swing. I suggest to stick to only one aid and practice by it. You will get much better results. Trust me.

There are three basic grip types. You should try them all and choose one which is best for you. There are never ending discussions about which golf grip type is the best. But in my opinion they are all same.

Here are those three grip types :

Overlapping grip type. Overlapping grip type setup: Little finger of one hand placed over index finger of other hand.

Interlocking grip type. Setup: Similar to the overlapping grip setup just those to finger are interlocked instead of overlapped.

Baseball grip type. Setup: Those two finger do not overlap or interlock, they just meet together.

Try all those grip types and choose the one which is most comfortable to you.

By: Arturas Gotceitas

About the Author:

The grip is your only connection with the club so it follows that a good golf grip is an essential component of a good swing and good golf game.

Placing your hands properly on the golf club helps you better control the position of the club’s face at impact. During the swing your body turns to create power. Since the body is rotating, the golf club must rotate at the same rate. In other words, the body and the club must turn together as a team.

A fundamentally sound golf grip helps you create both power and feel. The action of your wrists is a source of power so gripping the club too much in the palm of your hand reduces wrist action.

Since our fingers are the most sensitive parts of our hands, placing the club more in the fingers rather than in the palm increases the amount of wrist hinge, which results in longer tee shots and more feel.

Regardless of the type of golf grip you choose, a sound golf grip involves light grip pressure. Gripping the club too tight can cause thin, weak shots that slice. A lighter grip also enhances wrist hinge. This light pressure also increases the amount of clubface rotation, improving your chances of squaring the club at impact.

The Vardon overlap, sometimes called the overlapping grip, is the most common golf grip. Most golf instructors use this grip popularized by Harry Vardon around the turn of the 20th century. To correctly use this grip, take the little finger on your trailing hand and place it between the index and middle finger on your lead hand (for right-handed golfers, the lead hand is the left). The lead hand thumb should fit right along the lifeline of the trailing hand.

The next most common golf grip is called the interlock or interlocking. Several top players, including Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, use this grip. This grip locks the hands together. You might, however, find that the handle migrates to your palms which reduces wrist action and, therefore, power. People with small hands, weak forearms and wrists, and beginners often prefer this grip. To use the interlock grip, take the little finger on your trailing hand and intertwine it with the index finger on your lead hand. The lead hand thumb should fit in the lifeline of the trailing hand.

The ten finger grip (sometimes called the baseball grip) is the least preferred golf grip among instructors but it does have its advantages. It can be good for beginners and people who experience joint pain, have arthritis or small, weak hands. To position your hands properly using a ten finger grip, start with a perfect lead hand grip. Place the little finger of the trailing hand close against the index finger of the lead hand. Cover the lead hand thumb with the lifeline of the trailing hand.

============================

By: Dr. Richard Myers

About the Author:

Now that you’ve mastered The Grip, Set Up, Waggle, Backswing and Tempo the next move should be a piece of cake. In fact, you can let gravity and tempo do most of the work for this part of the swing. Your club is back, left shoulder under your chin, head upright, weight shift to right side, wrists are hinged back with club pointing down the target line and your back is facing the target – you’re ready to pull the trigger. Before you start the Downswing, let’s touch on one last item, “Relax”.

My trigger method for starting the downswing is twofold. I start to throw my left hip toward the target while pulling down on the club in a very relaxed manner allowing gravity and the acceleration of your tempo to do the work. The club and back end of the grip will be pointing at the golf ball. As you swing down the hips will shift laterally left and open to 45 o or more through impact.

The key is to keep your head behind the ball so the coil of your shoulder and upper body combined with the hinging of your wrists can be timed for releasing the club at the proper time thru the impact area. This will allow maximum power and accuracy. This is the part of the Downswing that overlaps the last step of the golf swing, “The Follow Thru”.

As your club is released and approaches the impact area, the wrists should be unhinging and the weight should continue to shift from the right to the left side to prepare for the Swing Finish or “Follow Thru” as I like to call it. The left side should remain firm just before and through the impact of the club head with the golf ball while the head remains behind the ball.

As I am looking down at the ball when the club head is approaching impact I look at the inside corner of the ball and try to keep a slight inside to out swing path by concentrating on hitting that inside part of the ball and aiming at one o’clock. I find that this will allow the club to drop into the power slot more readily and ultimately result in more distance and accuracy. Note: The information noted above is based on the assumption that the golfer is right handed. Please reverse for left handed golfers ( Right hip will be moving toward target ).

Tip: Keeping your left arm straight and a relaxed swing are key ingredients to more consistency in the golf swing.

By: Mike D'auria

About the Author:

For some reason today the hit song from Queen I Want to Break Free rang throughout my mind as I went about my normal day. Not sure why, but in true writers fashion there is some meaning behind this that I needed to put onto paper.

What is holding you back from reaching your true potential? Is it the fear of failing? The fear of actually becoming successful? The fear of landing that huge project and then not having the skilled resources to see it through? There is any number of reasons why todays small business computer consultant or IT Corporation cannot break free to hit their true potential. What is stopping you? I reflect back on a saying that Karl Bryan of Leading Global Consulting in Calgary told me once: he states, The same walls that protect you, stop you! This statement is so true of many of us.

We prefer to live in our small protective cocoon instead of breaking free of it and taking in all that life has to offer us. Why is it that we are afraid to bust out of this cocoon and truly embrace what we work so hard for? If the caterpillar never broke out of its protective cocoon it would never have the opportunity to turn into a butterfly and share its beauty with the world. What do you have to offer the world that you are not aware of yet because you havent come out of your cocoon? We all have great gifts that we can share with the world.

Success is just around the corner for you. You just need break free of whatever you are doing now to hold yourself back. Another good reason why many small business computer companies never get the true taste of success is because they do not prepare themselves for it. In order to prepare for success in your chosen field you need to act like you are already there. This thinking ranges from what services you offer, the clients you choose to do business with, the places you eat, the hotels you stay at and so on. If you go on the cheap you will never be successful because you are not training your mind for success. Try it once– when you attend your next conference, stay at one of the more expensive hotels, eat at a real restaurant instead of the local fast food joint and dress for success instead of wearing that wrinkled golf shirt with Khakis.

When you prepare for success, it will find you. When you do the same old things expecting different results, you will continue to achieve the same old results. So dont ask why you havent been successful when you are not committed to changing the most important person in your life. You!

An exercise I like to do involves a ten year plan. Find a friend or a colleague that is close to you and book a lunch ten years from today. In your Outlook meeting request, you need to make sure you pick a location and a time to meet for lunch. In the agenda, you only have one item, pick a certain level of success you want to achieve and review it on this date, ten years in the future. Once you commit to it, the plan will happen. When you record it and make others aware of your plan, the laws of attraction will make thing happen, as long as you commit to putting it into action.

If you truly want to break free from all the others in the small business IT space, you first need to commit to yourself that you want to do it; then share it with others. Next put together an action plan or promise to yourself showing how you are going to achieve your success. What I havent mentioned yet is dont do it all by yourself. Seek help, establish a team of colleagues to help you, and when you achieve certain milestones, celebrate them.

To truly break free, you need to set milestones that you can achieve along your way and also to ensure that you are the right track. You just need to look at the best in professional sports to see how they use milestones. Wayne Gretzky passed a number of other great hockey players on his road to success in professional hockey. Every single achievement were milestones along the way to him eventually breaking a number of professional hockey records.

The time is to plan and execute is right now but, most importantly, break free from the things that are limiting your success. Dont give up on things that are not working a 100% quite yet. However watch them carefully and do not continue those behaviors if they are not working in the long run for you. If you are reading this and wondering why after so many years in business you havent hit true success, perhaps it is time to ask yourself a different question: What is limiting you from truly breaking free?

By: Stuart Crawford

About the Author:

Is there a more important part of a golf game than the golf swing? No, of course not. So what better area to focus on than golf swing basics. Let’s take a look at some basic and very simple techniques which in turn will improve your swing and score.

1. Visualization. Try to always “see” the target before actually hitting the ball. See yourself swinging through the ball perfectly. Visualization is an underused and critical component to a golfers success. This is a very simple tip that can really improve your accuracy.

2. Always remember to keep your arms relaxed and straight. A good thing to remember is to keep your arms under your shoulders. The bottom line is that your arms need to be within a few inches of your lower body.

3. Make sure you stand in a relaxed position over the ball with a slight bend in your knees. Your legs should be balanced with an even weight distributed between your legs. These small tips can really assist in establishing an initial approach and alignment to the ball.

4. Place a big emphasis on physical fitness. That’s right, we know how important physical fitness is to improving not just your golf swing but also your overall golf game. The most important component to golf physical fitness is the strength phase. You need to strengthen your upper body and arms so that you can generate a real good swing speed and follow through. Almost as important is the cardiovascular aspect. This may not be as relevant to the swing component of golfing but will definitely help with the overall game.

Practice these small tips and they will pay large dividends to your golf swing and all other areas of your game. Have fun out on the links.

By: George Knoechel

About the Author:
