Golf Swing Grip 1- The Vardon Grip
This grip was started with a famous old British player called Harry Vardon. It is the most common grip in use and promotes a neutral hold on the club. It involves getting the hands to work together by overlapping the little finger of the right hand with the left hand..by placing this little finger between the gap between your index finger and the next finger of your left hand. The aim is to encourage to encourage both hands to work together, rather than independently, throughout the swing. However it may not be the most suitable one for you and many amateurs and people who are not that strong could consider using an adaptation of the Vardon grip which is used be Tiger, Greg Norman and Jack Nicklaus.
Golf Swing Grip 2- The adapted Vardon grip
This grip involve intertwining, rather than overlapping, the little finger of the right hand with the index finger of the left hand. If you struggle with a slice or weak striking you might consider this grip as it allows a freer release of the club with the right hand through impact. This interlocking of the little finger can give you a greater sense of security between the two hands and allows a freer release through impact with the right hand..it is more suitable for those who struggle a little to get a good free release through impact.
Golf Swing Grip 3- The Baseball grip
This grip involves no overlapping of the fingers..it is simply done by putting both hands fully on the grip of the club. Both hands sit independently on the club. This can lead to the stronger right hand taking over and the danger with this grip is that the 2 hands can work independently..which is not what you want when you want to promote consistency in your swing. A few professionals have successfully used this grip including Ronan Rafferty and Moe Norman, the eccentric Canadian who was rated one of the best ball strikers of all time. This can be an extremely useful grip to help rid yourself of a slice and promote a draw and is encouraged in younger golfers and ladies who may not have the strength to play with the conventional neutral Vardon grip.

To learn how to swing a golf club can be one of the most challenging things to actually master especially if you’re a beginner. It requires commitment and effort on your part to put in the practice necessary to learn how to swing a golf club effectively. There are a few basic things you need to keep in mind in order to learn the golf swing and it is recommended that you take it slow and learn one thing at a time.
Once you feel comfortable with a particular aspect of the golf swing then move on to the next step. If you really want to learn how to swing a golf club then by mastering these 5 steps you will have it in no time at all, but you will have to practice to make it perfect. My 5 essential steps are: Grip, Stance, Backswing, Downswing and Follow Through.
#1 The Grip
There are basically three kinds of ways to grip the golf club. It is important to spend the time necessary to master your grip as this is a critical aspect of the golf swing. If your grip is incorrect it will affect your performance negatively even if everything else is fine.
The first kind of grip is the interlocking grip, this is where the index finger of the left hand and the small finger of your right hand interlock or hook each other. If you have short hands or your hands are very thick then this kind of grip may be the best for you.
The next kind is the overlapping grip. With this grip the little finger of the right hand will sit on top of the index finger of the left hand. You need strong wrists and arms to use this grip. Test each grip method and decide on the one that feels most comfortable to you.
The baseball grip is commonly used by most beginners. The index finger of the left hand and the little finger of the right hand do not overlap or interlock but they do make contact. This is basically as the name suggests the way you would grip a baseball bat.
#2 The Stance
The important point to remember with the stance is to keep your weight balanced and your feet position getting wider up to shoulder width as the club you are using gets longer. So for the driver you will want the most stability thus a wider stance with your legs shoulder width apart is ideal. Also the ball position should start at the center of your stance for a wedge and move up to the heel of your left foot for the driver.
#3 The Backswing
One of the biggest mistakes that beginners make is that they rush their backswing. Make sure that you take a slow relaxed backswing. You are better off being too slow than too fast when it comes to the backswing. Also work on keeping your left arm as straight as possible throughout the backswing.
#4 The Downswing
An important key to the downswing is to keep your head in the same position or as close as possible to its original location throughout the downswing. Make sure that you do not try to use your right arm to try to generate power. Instead you should get the feeling that you are pulling the club with your left arm. The power will come from the leverage that is created between the angle between the club and you left arm. The longer you can hold this angle the more power you will create.
#5 The Follow Through
At impact make sure that your head is behind the ball and keep your head down and let it come up with your right shoulder. Keep in mind also that at no point in the golf swing should you feel like you need to add power or strain yourself. Stay relaxed and you will soon develop an effortless swing that is not only accurate but also generates a lot of power and distance.
My advice would be to spend a week or two practicing your grip, stance and basic swing movements. Once you are ready to trust your mechanics then you can head out on the course and focus on your targets. When you are on the course do your best to stay away from thinking about swing mechanics and just concentrate on your targets. Train your swing and then trust it, this is the best way to get lower golf scores.

So you want to be one of those super swing machines? Your golf club grip can make or break your game. Get back to basics on the driving range and take some time to find the perfect fit for you. The flight of the ball is directly related to the way you place your hands on the club. What are the most popular golf grips?
1. The Baseball Golf Grip
Although not preferred by instructors, the Baseball or Ten Finger technique is the most natural one to use when taking up golfing. It doesn’t involve interlocked fingers and is a simple hand over hand method. If you are right handed, this hand will normally be placed at the bottom. The little finger of the right hand is placed close against the index finger of the left hand. Reverse the process if you are left handed. Over the years a number of PGA Tour members have used this style with great success. Players with smallish hands or joint ailments will find this golf grip to be effective.
2. The Vardon Golf Club Grip
This one, also called the Overlapping golf grip, carries the name of the inimitable Harry Vardon. This six time winner of the British Open Championships used it to great effect. Assuming that you are right handed, this hand will be at the bottom. This trailing hand’s little finger lays snugly over and between the index finger and middle finger of the top or left hand, also referred to as the lead hand. The thumb of the top hand finds a place along the lifeline of the bottom or trailing hand. This is perhaps the style that is most commonly used. It is ideal for players with large hands.
3. The Interlocking Golf Grip
This is similar to the Vardon, but here the little finger of the trailing hand interlocks with the index finger of the top hand. The thumbs form a ‘V’ shape which should point in the direction of your right shoulder. Interlocking is usually suitable if the golfer has medium-sized hands or weak forearms and wrists. Make sure that you can see the first two knuckles of the left hand.
There you have the three basic techniques. You have to experiment on the driving range until you find the golf club grip that works best for you. Generally speaking, your control will be better if you use one of the interlocking styles. The Baseball is less effective in this regard and will in a sense disturb the balance. One hand will always be more powerful in this case – a scenario that is likely to be detrimental to your game.
Remember to be relaxed when it comes to this aspect of your game. Too much tension will be counter productive. Tension problems are usually more advanced on the right side. Make sure that you keep this at a medium level. Aim for around 5 to 6 on a scale of 10. Too tight a hold will result in loss of distance.
Check your hands often to make sure that you haven’t changed their position inadvertently. The wrists should always function as a unit.
While talking about your grip: Don’t forget to pay attention to the grips you use on your clubs. Many players pay more attention to golf cart accessories than to these small necessities. While you can get by with a used golf cart, you can’t afford to skimp on this little item. Your set has to be perfect for you and must be kept in sound condition.

All golf players that that do this for a living, still look for ways to improve their golf. And they do this every day. As long as you remember that it is your golf swing the one driving the score, you have every chance of becoming invincible. Still, you also need a perfect hand-eye coordination, creativity, vision, balance and athletic ability to play golf.
One of the most challenging games one can learn during a lifetime is golf and how to play it well. You can go after many golf tips, but it is always wiser to follow simple approaches that can be applied and that can help you be a better player and improve your swing.
The easiest golf swing is many times the most effective when trying to hit the ball further and straighter. So here are a few simple but effective tips:
The Grip
The foundation of your swing stands in the grip. Developing the right grip is essential to getting the perfect swing.
Here are a few different grips: the interlocking grip (with the left index finger and the right little finger combine and interlock, especially if you have thick hands, or even shorter hands); the overlapping grip (having the right little finger sit on top of the index finger of your left hand, used by most male golfer); or the baseball grip (without overlapping the index finger of the left hand and the little finger of the right hand, but make contact with each other. It is used by the majority of beginners)
The Stance
The stance that you want is having your weight equally balanced. For this, standing relaxed over the ball is of great importance, since any tension can affect the quality of the swing. So, you have to make sure you follow this one. It’s best to bend at the hips also with a slight flex in your knees. Remember to keep your spine erect and not rounded.
The Backswing
As long as you are slow and deliberate, you can get the perfect backswing. Do not be quick about it, as the power is actually generated more on your downswing. Also keep your left arm as straight as you can while going as far back as possible.
The Downswing
Try to keep your head in the same position – it’s the key to the downswing. Begin it downswing from your hips, while keeping your head behind the ball. It is not advised to use your right hand so as to generate more power, as it will be generated by the angle formed between the clubs and the wrists. Again, do not be quick about your downswing; it is better to have a gradually increasing speed on the downswing along with good balance.
The Follow Through
It is important for your head to come up with your right shoulder, with your chin over your right shoulder while your head is facing the target. This will complete the follow through. Being patient while learning all this tips is essential. You can also practice your swings without actually hitting the ball, to start with. You will become more and more comfortable doing it like this.
Remember: relax and focus on your targets when you are on the course! And practice, practice, practice!
